I think it’s time that we put our differences behind us and work together as human beings to be kind to each other. It’s time to respect one another and know that if we respect other people’s views, even if we don’t believe in them ourselves, then we are paving the way for own views and beliefs to be respected and honoured.
With everything that’s going on in the world, I can’t help thinking – what can I do? What can I do in my life that will make any difference? I keep coming back to one thought in particular, and that is kindness. The more I see cruelty in the world the kinder I want to be to those around me.
If only one person attends my yoga class, some might say ‘what’s the point in teaching just for one person? Will you make any money?’ But for me – I take the view that one happier person makes the world a better place.
Looking around me and hearing all the craziness that goes on in the world, I can’t help but ask myself, why are we in this mess? Don’t the majority of people just want to have a nice quite life, send their kids to a good school and be able to be left alone to practice their particular belief system? I haven’t found an answer to this question and at the same time, I think looking back at the why’s isn’t always helpful. Instead, I want to focus on how I can improve myself as a human being and therefore help to enhance the life around me.
The more sorrow I see in this world, the more it makes me want to practice the art of kindness to others and to myself. The gentler and kinder I can be with myself, in turn, makes me happier and more able to go about my work with a positive attitude.
I guess all these crazy people who are driven by hate and power are – at the end of the day, the ones who miss out. They can’t see that it is through kindness and tolerance of others that we make the world a better place on a day to day basis! And I have come to realise, the only thing I can control is my actions. So if we can add more kindness to our lives, and start respecting those around us, I believe through our actions we are setting the precedent for the kind of world we want to live in.
